Our Tues-Friday Four Year Old Class will be taught by Jen Howell this year, who joined the ANS staff as a 2 year old teacher in 2012-13. Mrs. Howell has a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and a M.Ed in Early Childhood and Special Education from Damaen College. She has taught preschool in Philadelphia and at Autistic Services in Williamsville. Three of her children have attended ANS for a total of 8 years.

This year, Mrs. “W” will take on the job of head teacher for Amherst Central School District’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten class for four year olds located at ANS. Lisa joined the ANS staff in 2008, teaching both a class of three-year olds and a class of four-year olds. She holds a Certificate of Early Education from Buffalo State College, a BA from SUNY Buffalo in Psychology and has received her Master of Science degree in School Counseling from SUNY Oneonta. She previously substituted as a long-term ANS four-year old teacher and taught at St. Edmund’s Preschool. Mrs. W’s three children attended ANS.

We are happy to welcome Kathy Fisher for 2016-17, who will be working five days at ANS. She will teach two classes of two year olds, one on Tues-Thurs and one on Wed-Fri, as well as the First Friends parent-child class on Mondays. Kathy’s work experience has been as a UPK teacher, director, music teacher, preschool teacher, before and after school site supervisor, K-2 teacher – in various Lutheran schools in NY state and elsewhere. Kathy recently completed her MS in Early Childhood Ed from Hofstra University (2009).

This year Tara Messina will be teaching three year old classes on Mon-Wed-Fri and Tues-Thurs. She joined our staff as a two-year old teacher in 2010, teaching 4 days per week and one of our ANS June Camps. She holds her NYS certification (Pre-K through 6), having received her BS in Elementary Education from SUNY Fredonia and her Master’s degree from Buffalo State College. She has previously taught preschool and UPK classes and has extensive experience as a literacy, math and reading tutor. Mrs. Messina’s children attended the Orchard Park Co-operative Preschool.

Jennifer Hubert Mrs.Hubert@amherstnurseryschool.org
Welcome back to Jennifer Hubert whose role expands from ANS parent alumna to ANS teacher this year! She will be teaching a class of two year olds for us on Tues-Thurs mornings. Mrs. Hubert’s work experience includes: Socio-therapist and Administrator at Hillside Children’s Center, Teacher-Therapist at Women and Children’s Hospital Therapeutic Preschool. She is trained in both Play Therapy and Art Therapy and was tasked with providing a structured classroom setting for children aged 2-5 with diagnosed clinical behaviors. Four of Jennifer’s five daughters attended ANS quite a few years ago.

Our newest hire is Kelsey Napolitano who has just completed her BA in Health and Human Services from SUNYAB with a concentration in Early Childhood. Kelsey will be starting her masters work in Early Childhood Education at UB in Spring of 2017. Kelsey’s work with children has included assisting in a special education summer school, working at the JCC Early Childhood Daycare with children aged 3-5 and interning at the UB Early Childhood Research Center.
Colleen White joins our staff this year as our music teacher on Tuesdays and Fridays. Veteran ANS parent and dedicated Parent Board member, Colleen received her Masters in Education from Northern Arizona University. She has experience teaching preschool music through the international Music Together program. Two of her children are attending ANS this year.
Amy Koloski Mrs.K@amherstnurseryschool.org
Amy Koloski joined the ANS staff as Education Director in June of 1999. She received her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and her Master’s degree in Education from SUNYAB. Amy is certified in Secondary Social Studies and her teaching experience has been in the Clarence School District. Mrs. K currently teaches a June Camp called “Camp Camp” and has been the ANS Music Teacher and First Friends Teacher in past years. Mrs. Koloski’s children attended ANS.
Every teacher is assisted by an experienced teacher aide, as well as one or two parent helpers each day. Since parent co-oping is not required in the UPK classroom, ANS provides two teacher aides for that class of 17. This year’s teacher aides include: Diane Boehnke and Stacey Mann with Lisa Wawrzyniak in UPK; Misty Rojek with Jen Howell in Tu-Fri 4’s; Jessica McLaughlin and Karen McGrath with Tara Messina in MWF and T/Th 3’s; Karen Schiller with Tina Vivola in MWF and T/Th 3’s; Noreen Small and Megan Leising with Kathy Fisher in T/Th and WF 2’s; Kara Colvin with Jennifer Hubert in T/Th 2’s. Bev Mancini will be aiding Mrs. Koloski in the office Monday through Friday.
