October 2017

From The Staff…

A huge thanks to all the parents, staff and Board members for getting 2017-18 off to a great start.  Now let’s get ready for some fun, friendship and learning!  MUSIC TOGETHER classes with Mrs. White began September 21 and 22.  They will continue on Thursdays and Fridays throughout the year.  If you are co-oping on a music day, please sing, clap, dance, play and wiggle right along with us. The more you participate, the more the children will too.  Please note:  since we are now a Music Together school, we are all invited to a special concert on Saturday, October 14 at the Harlem Road Community Center.  Music Together artist “Uncle Gerry” will perform at 10:00am to noon.

October is  FIRE SAFETY MONTH and we will welcome the Snyder firefighters and fire truck on Tuesday, Oct 10 and Wednesday, Oct 11.  The children will be outside to see the fire truck, so please dress for the weather!  Our classes will celebrate Fall and HALLOWEEN at the end of the month – check with your teacher to find out which day you may wear costumes to school!  Costumes should be non-scary, comfortable and easy to remove (be sure to wear clothes underneath!).  Cumbersome accessories should be left at home.  Masks and weapons cannot come into the classroom.  Each teacher will tailor the activities within the classroom to benefit her unique blend of little ones.  Please speak to your child’s teacher if you have concerns or suggestions.

SCHOOL PICTURES are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct 17 and Wednesday, Oct 18.  Individual portraits and a whole class photo will be taken.  Order forms have been distributed and must be returned to your classroom teacher before picture day!  If you would like to be present for your child’s individual portrait, you may sign up to come early to school (8:30 am).  Mrs. W’s UPK class will have pictures taken on Tuesday – Mrs. Howell’s and Mrs. Messina’s classes will have their photos on Wednesday.

Children from Mrs. Ehre’s Monday two year old class may come at 10:30am on either day to have individual portraits taken;  we will take a class picture on Monday, October 16.

Optional Programs News.   FOURS PLUS – an optional fifth day of school on Monday for our Tues-Fri four year old classes will begin October 2.  The fall session will run through December.  Culture Kids – Level 1 SPANISH for Preschoolers begins Wednesday, October 4.  SOCCER SHOTS begins Thursday, Oct 5 and Friday, Oct 6.  ENGINEERING FOR KIDS Session 1 for four year olds began Sept. 26 and will end on October 31.  CREATIVE DANCE had a conflict and cannot be held on Mondays as planned.  We are trying to see if it can be rescheduled for Thursdays.  All afterschool optional programs will end at 12:15pm.

Ending Thoughts.  We’ve already had a FIRE DRILL with some of the three and four year old children – the state requires that we hold at least one fire drill each month  We discuss the rules with the children in advance, show them the smoke alarm, and hear the loud beep.  Some of the children are fearful.  It would be beneficial if you could show them your home smoke alarms and explain that fire drills are just practice, not real and nothing to worry about at school.  FORMS –  If you received a notification that your child’s student folder has missing or incomplete forms, please take care of it right away.   This is also a state requirement.  Thanks for your cooperation!

From The Parent Board…

We hope you will get involved in all the wonderful things going on at ANS this year!  Thanks to all the families who joined in the fun at our annual Hot Dog Mixer back in August!  What a beautiful night to spend at the park with friends!  Liking our school FACEBOOK page and joining in conversations with your CLASS FACEBOOK groups are great ways to connect with our classroom and school community.

We invite all ANS families and friends to participate in our second annual ARMCHAIR FUNDRAISER during the month of October.  The Armchair Fundraiser is a direct donation campaign.  It involves no purchasing or selling and is 100% tax deductible.   Stop by our fundraising table in the lobby each week for details about our month of exciting community FUNdraising or to make a donation by cash, check or paypal.  Thank you in advance for helping us to reach our goal.

Join us for BOO FEST on Friday, October 27 from 5:30 to 7:30pm.   Activities include trick or treating, costume parade and dance, and dinner (pizza for sale).  A bag of candy will be your ticket to a night of family fun.  More information will be coming soon.  We’re looking for volunteers.  Please contact Cat Pavon and Allison Zynda at

Our next Parent Board meeting is Thursday, October 12th at 7 pm.  Please feel free to join us.  In the meantime, please contact me with any questions, concerns or compliments.   You may leave messages in the office, stop me in the hallway, or contact me at
