What’s Happening

A N S    N O T E S                                            April-May 2017

From the Staff …

MARCH was full of fun and learning.  We were visited by the Aquarium of Niagara’s Touch Tank  – and we met a horseshoe crab, lobster, green crab, hermit crab and sea urchin, who was filling in for the starfish who had other plans.  Leprechaun mischief was a real problem on March 16 and 17.  If you were co-oping those days, the leprechauns apologize!  The ANS Music Festival was just wonderful on March 21 and 24.  What wonderful talent we have in our community!  Thanks to Thomas Ragonnet (piano), Andrew Moore (double base), Dave Wolf (guitar and banjo), Tom Diina (piano), Danielle Hentish (voice), Sam Brownell (ukulele), Fran Noonan (piano), Mrs. Zall (hokey pokey), Mason Howell (clarinet), Andrew Speers (trumpet and cornet), Megan Leising (flute), and the Three Belles (handbells) led by Mrs. Fisher.

APRIL is sure to be a lovely spring month.  On the 6th and 7th, Mr. E. Bunny will be making the rounds and leaving some special eggs in our classrooms for the children to find.  We’ll hop right into our Spring Recess from April 10 through the 17th, will classes resuming on the 18th.  Silly old Mother Goose will fly in for a visit on April 26 and 27 and the children will need to help her act out some favorite rhymes.  The merry month of MAY will soon be upon us!  Mrs. Howell’s and Mrs. W’s four year olds will take their second field trip to Akron Acres farm in Akron on May 5.  They will take a hayride, ride ponies and hopefully get to see some precious newborn baby animals. Our beloved mothers will be our guests at the Mother’s Day events in the classrooms on May 11 and 12 (Kids and Dads – Mother’s Day is May 14!)

END OF YEAR EVENTS.  We hope everyone shows school spirit and wears an ANS or red shirt to the ANS Class PICNICS on Tues, May 16 & Wed, May 17!   They will be held at Harlem Road Community Center playground from 9:30 to 11:30 am.  Children must be supervised by a parent or other authorized adult.  Note: UPK classes will attend on Tuesday.  The Parent Board will be sponsoring a “goodie” sale so the children can have the fun of “shopping” for snacks and drinks.  The cost per item will be 25 cents.  If it is extremely inclement or very, very cold, picnics will be moved to Thurs and Fri, May 18 and 19.  In this case, please bring the children to school for a regular class day on May 16 or 17.  Finally, the last days of school for all students except UPK are Thurs, May 25 and Fri, May 26.  On each day the two and three year old classes will present a short “MOVING ON” program at 10:00, followed by parties in classrooms.  On Friday, 2’s and 3’s will be dismissed at 11:00 so teachers can attend the “GRADUATION” program for Mrs. Howell’s students.  The last class for UPK is scheduled to be June 20.

JUNE CAMPS.  For some of you, it may not be the end, however!  We hope to see you at an ANS June Camp (camps are one week long – either June 5-9 or 12-16).   The exciting and intriguing camp offerings and registration forms will be coming home soon.

We bid a fond goodbye to our ANS children who are moving on to different schools next year.  We hope all of you enjoy the summer and get recharged to learn like crazy in September!  We also thank the “graduating” Parent Board members, as well as the rest of the Board, led by Megan Leising, for all their hard work this year.  We thank all of our families for choosing ANS and spreading the word about our cooperative school.  We are full in every class next year EXCEPT MWF 3’s.  So if you know of a family with a child turning three before Dec 1, please have them give a call or e-mail.

Amy Koloski
Education Director

From the Parent Board Chairperson …

The school year is nearly over – it really flew by!  I want to thank our fantastic Education Director, Amy Koloski, and all of our teachers and aides (in the classroom and office) for their amazing work this year.  We are so lucky to have these wonderful people who enjoy working with our children!

On Saturday, April 15  at 1 pm, join your school friends for an Egg Hunt at Harlem Road Community Center.  Bring your own baskets to collect eggs (color coded for ages) and win prizes.

Save the date!  Our annual Chiavetta’s Chicken Dinner is coming up on Wednesday, April 26 from 4 to 7 pm.  Check your child’s mailbox for information on pre-sale tickets.  Back by popular demand, we will offer “drive through” service.  If you are looking for participation hours, this is a great opportunity.  Hours are flexible between 3 and 8 pm.  Please sign up in the office.  If you have already signed up, the fundraising committee will be in touch.

I would like to thank all of the members of this year’s Parent Board.  We would not have been able to accomplish so much without their dedicated support!  Thank you for continually going above and beyond your position titles!  Your organization and dedication to making ANS the best has helped us to keep focused all year.  We are actively seeking new Board members for 2017-18.  Parents with interest in accounting, marketing, website maintenance or those who can devote time and energy to helping out, please contact Megan Leising ( or leave a note in the office.  Our next Parent Board meeting is Thursday, April 6 at 7 pm at school. All are welcome to join us!  If you have any questions, comments or ideas in the meantime, please call, email or catch me in the halls.
